The NFI Rifle Hunter Shooting Program introduces and develops the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for owning and using a rifle safely. New shooters and hunters alike will enjoy the applications designed with youth, women, and new rifle shooters in mind. Through this course, students will learn about rifle safety, parts, operation, ammunition, shooting fundamentals and activities including live-fire range drills at The Redding Gun Club, under the experienced teachings of NRA Instructor Kevin Tedder.
This a three month marksmanship program that progressively builds on a shooter’s skills that he learns under the coaching of an NRA Instructor. Initial class is $199 and includes NRA Basic Rifle and earns students their Basic Practical Rating. The two follow on classes are $75 each.
This course consists of one 8-hour course followed by two 4-hour courses, 1 in each of the subsequent months, to practice and participate in the NRA/Winchester Hunter Marksmanship Program.
Initial Course: 04/18/20, 8 AM-12 PM at Oxford Suites, 1967 Hilltop Dr. Redding, California & 1 PM- 5 PM at the Redding Gun Club Range. $199.00
First NRA/Winchester Marksmanship Session: 05/16/20, 9 AM-1 PM. Redding Gun Club, $75.00 (Students must complete the initial session on 04/18/20 to participate)
Second NRA/Winchester Marksmanship Session: 6/20/20, 9 AM-1 PM, Redding Gun Club, $75.00 (Students must complete the initial session on 05/18/20 to participate)
During the initial course, ammunition and .22 rifles can be provided, but we always recommend you bring your own to learn with. During follow on NRA/Winchester Marksmanship training, we also recommend that you bring your own rifle to learn with (any safe high power hunting caliber rifle, sighted in) though bolt action .223 Rem rifles will be provided and ammunition for our rifles can be purchased as part of your training at current market prices, normally around $.50 per .223 round. Ammunition needed will depend on shooting habits and accuracy of the individual shooter. Normally 50 cartridges a day is enough.
During these follow on training sessions at the Redding Gun Club, students will continue marksmanship training while working their way through the Winchester/NRA Rifle Hunter Marksmanship Program. Students who attend these scheduled follow on classes will strive to earn NRA Pro-Marksman, Marksman, Marksman 1st Class, Sharpshooter and finally Expert. The Distinguished Expert rating is achieved after a successful hunt and submission of photo with the hunter’s name, hometown, species, hunt location, type of firearm, date of hunt, any brief special details for the hunt. Ask your NRA Instructor Kevin Tedder about opportunities to fulfill this rating on a guided hunt in the area.
